Luis Fernandez Labarta to Join the Owls' Tennis Team

Luis Fernandez Labarta will join Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team when the Owls begin class in less than two weeks, announced Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's head men's tennis coach.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Luis to our family," said Gonzalez. Luis brings a lot of energy to his game and is a tough opponent to beat. I really enjoyed watching him play and really like his demeanor on and off the court. I can't wait to have him in town and get to work."

Fernandez Labarta comes to FAU as a true freshman after building a stellar amateur resume. The Spaniard has won a handful of U16 and U18 tournaments, with his most recent victory coming at the 2018 U18 Provisional Championship in Spain, and the Galicia Championship where he won in the U18 and U16 Divisions. He will join the squad holding a No. 92 overall rank in the Men's Open Spain National 2018 Rankings.

"I was attracted by the high level of the tennis played at FAU," said Fernandez Labarta. "This will undoubtedly allow me to continue to improve my tennis game. I hope I can help FAU keep it growing as a top-rated university as well."
