BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University dance team claimed a second place finish at the 2018 National Collegiate Dance Championships, Division 1-A, which concluded Friday in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Owls were invited to the competition after the submission of a video. Heading into the nine teams were in consideration. Seven advanced to the finals with FAU falling 0.16 points behind the National Champion, perennial contender Louisville. The No. 2 finish is the highest event finish for the Owl dance team and they did so by recording the program's highest event score with a 9.276 in the preliminary round and the improved 9.375 in the final round.
"I could not be prouder of this team and their work ethic and dedication," said Claudia Soto, FAU's head spirit coach. "They are truly a family that overcame a number of obstacles throughout the year and are the best examples of what can happen when you trust, support and sacrifice for your teammates."
The Owls will be back on campus with finals and graduation in the coming week, but also will be busy with the 2018-19 dance team auditions just two weeks away, scheduled for April 21 and 22.
