BOCA RATON, Fla. - (March 30, 2018) - The Florida Atlantic University softball team hosted North Texas in a meeting of Conference USA's two division leaders. The Mean Green won game one 1-0 in eight innings while the Owls won the second game 12-4 in five innings. FAU is now 20-17 overall and 8-3 in C-USA play.

Game 1

Key Plays

Neither team had a runner reach third base until the top of the eighth when North Texas (17-16, 7-4) had runners on second and third with one out. A sacrifice fly by Nicole Ochotnicki drove in the game's only run. FAU had multiple runners on in three different innings, but couldn't score.

Notables

Madisyn Palmer had two of FAU's three hits and stole a base in the game. The third hit came from Jolie Duffner.
Tatum Buckley threw a complete game five-hitter to take the tough luck loss in the circle.

Game 2

Key Plays

After the Mean Green scored an unearned run in the top of the first, the Owls answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Emily Lochten walked and stole second, then advanced to third on Palmer's infield single. Lochten scored on Buckley's RBI single before Buckley and Palmer successfully executed a double steal to give FAU a 2-1 lead. Mia Olson followed with a blast to straight away center to increase the margin to 4-1. Kelsey Morrison singled, advanced to third on a Lauren Whitt grounder and Duffner fly ball, then scored on an Alex Miller base hit. Samantha Lageyre moved Miller up with a single to center, bringing Lochten back up to the plate. She crushed a pitch to almost the same spot as Olson, giving the Owls an 8-1 cushion. NT scored a run in the top of the third, but FAU got it right back in the home half when a Palmer double drove in Duffner to make the score 9-2. Duffner plated Morrison with a base hit in the fourth, giving the Owls an eight-run edge, 10-2. The Mean Green scored twice in the top of the fifth to hold off the mercy rule, but that proved only temporary, as the Owls scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Notables

As a team, the Owls matched their season highs in runs, hits (15) and RBI (11).
Emily Lochten had two hits, including her team high seventh homerun, two walks, three RBI, three runs scored and stole a base.
Madisyn Palmer tallied three hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the game.
Mia Olson notched two hits, two RBI, scored a run and threw four innings in the circle to pick up the win.
Lauren Whitt posted two hits and a RBI.
Jolie Duffner registered her third multiple-hit game of the season.
