Men’s Basketball Comes Up Just Short Against Bethune-Cookman, 72-70

The Owls host Mercer on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Despite a career high 28 points from Jailyn Ingram, the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team dropped a hard fought 72-70 game to Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. The Owls fell to 6-2 on the season.
The Start
The Wildcats (4-4) started out hot, building a 15-point lead at the midway point of the first half.
The Turning Point
FAU went on a 19-6 run to pull within two, 33-31, with 1:29 left before halftime. BCU scored the final five points of the stanza to take a 38-31 advantage into the locker room. The Owls eventually went ahead of BCU, leading by as many as five.
The Finish
A modest Wildcat run gave them a 65-63 lead with 2:41 left in the game. Anthony Adger made a layup to even the score. After a pair of BCU free throws regained the lead, 67-65. Adger struck again, making a three-pointer to push the Owls in front by one with 1:08 to go. The Wildcats made a triple of their own to retake the edge with 37 seconds on the clock. FAU had an empty offensive possession and was forced to foul. BCU split a pair of free throws, making the score 71-68. A Michael Forrest layup trimmed the margin to one. Another split trip to the line for the Wildcats made the score 72-70. The Owls had the ball with nine seconds left, but were unable to get off a shot attempt.
Notables
- Ingram scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half. It's his fifth game of at least 20 points so far this season
- Anthony Adger scored a career-high 20 points in the game to go along with three rebounds and two assists
- Richardson Maitre had six points, four steals and scored a bucket in 22 minutes of action
- Simeon Lepichev came off the bench to pull down eight rebounds
