LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team had a tough road test on Wednesday night in Little Rock, the preseason favorite to repeat as Sun Belt champions. The Owls fell behind early, made a push in the third quarter and to start the fourth, but ultimately fell, 61-38.
Â
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- Jayla Adams, in her first collegiate start, put the first points on the board to give the Owls a lead to start the game. The Trojans responded with a 10-0 run before Ra'Kyra Gabriel ended it with a layup. The two teams traded baskets to end the quarter with Little Rock claiming a 17-9 lead
- Adams once again scored first to open the second quarter, but the Owls were outscored 14-5 in the frame. FAU went cold from the field, going the final 7:49 of the period without scoring
- At the 6:34 mark of the third quarter, Glenisha Harkless scored to give the Owls their first points in over 11 minutes. That basket sparked some momentum for FAU and Abby Voss and Tyana Robinson hit back-to-back threes. The Owls outscored Little Rock, 14-3, from that point to cut the lead to 10 points heading into the final quarter                                                                    Â
- Amber Gaston cut the score to eight with a layup to open the fourth quarter, but Little Rock made a late surge to put up 23 points to end the game

COACH JABIR'S TAKE
"Little Rock is one of the best teams we'll play all year. They exposed our inexperience. I was really proud of our third quarter, but we couldn't sustain it. I thought our defense is getting better, but we have to find ways to run our offense and score against a really good defense. We're a work in progress and we'll keep working on it and get better."
