Fourth Quarter Surge Does In Women's Basketball

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team dropped a 75-59 decision to Georgia State on Saturday afternoon at the FAU Arena. In a game that featured seven ties and 11 lead changes, the Panthers used a dominant fourth quarter to seal the win, outscoring the Owls 22-4 in the frame.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
"Though we haven't played an entire game well yet our freshmen and injured players are starting to put together longer periods of consistent play. We are a work in progress with a long way to go."
UP NEXT
FAU will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to take on Little Rock for a Wednesday night tip-off. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. (EST). Â

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- FAU jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game but a 11-0 run from Georgia State put the Panthers ahead in the first quarter, taking a 19-12 lead into the second
- Georgia State was up six at the 7:45 mark. Ra'Kyra Gabriel made a layup and Jamaria Williams a free throw to bring the score within three. Janae Thomas made a layup and two free throws on the following play to then give the Owls the lead. FAU held the lead until the 3:17 minute mark, but the Panthers took a one-point advantage into halftime
- After outscoring Georgia State in the second quarter, 22-16, the Owls continued to push ahead with a 21-18 scoring advantage in the third quarter. With the scored tied heading into the final seconds, Myka Johnson Matthews connected on a layup as time expired to give the Owls a two-point advantage to end the third
- In the fourth quarter, the Owls went cold, making only one shot from the field
- Abby Voss led the Owls on offense with 12 points. She also had nine rebounds in the game and is now averaging 12.5 boards a game
- Myka Johnson Matthews had 10 points in the game along with four rebounds and two assists
- Juliette Gauthier added seven points, six rebounds and three assists
- Jayla Adams was one point short of double digits and had three rebounds, three steals and two assists
