Long Weekend Concludes for FAU Track and Field

GAINESVILLE and DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University track and field team, at two different sites, continued individual success including more slots gained on the all-time program list.
Notables:
- At the Florida Relays at UF, Jamika Glades moved to second place all-time in both the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles. She was 10th overall in the 400 with a time of 59:18, and 34th in the 100, in a time of 13.81
- The 5,000 meter race was ran at both meets. At the Florida Relays, Christina Schultz achieved a PR as the 23rd-fastest collegian, and moved to ninth in school history (17:52.23). Also there, Emily Ludwig just missed her PR at 19:00.94.
- Embry-Riddle's Spike Classic featured Owls' runners in the 5,000 meters as well: Sophia Clark was the fourth overall finisher at 19:19:00; Johanna Freeman was the ninth-fastest collegiate runner (20:19.22) and Jasmine Van Tine was 11th (20:33.86)
- The final race of Sunday for FAU was the 4x800-meter relay at the Florida Relays, notching the second-fastest school time ever at 9:10.51. The combo of Mikaela Jonsson, Liz Wellman, Carydaliz Fontanez and Erica Lersch finished 10th amongst great competition
- Lersch was the fourth collegian to finish the 1,500 meters at Embry-Riddle, coming in at 4:57.94. Fontanez was 10th in the same race. Also setting a PR was Cianna Gopie
- Other top finishes in Gainesville included Frida Thorsås in the javelin, 18th at 38.62 meters; the 4x400 relay squad, also 18th, in a time of 3:46.01 (Sherline Valentin, Anne-Catherine Wasser, Berneta Boldin and Glades); and Jonsson, coming in with a PR in the 800 meters at 2:13.74

"This weekend, we had some great performances, and some performances which need some improvement, but most importantly we really got to see what the country's best teams look like and where we would like to go in the future," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "No matter the final outcome we competed against some of the best and that in itself will make us better moving forward."
What's Next:
For the third time, the Owls will take part in a University of Miami-hosted event in Coral Gables. Next Friday and Saturday is the UM Alumni Invitational.
