BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University head softball coach Joan Joyce was named Palm Beach County Coach of the Year in a ceremony held Sunday night in West Palm Beach. The award was part of the 41st Annual Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame Awards Celebration. Hours before winning the award, Joyce won her 900th career game with a 4-1 over WKU.
"It's an honor to receive the award," said Joyce.
Joyce led the Owls to the best start (12-0) in program history in 2016 and set a school record by winning 21 games in a row. FAU ended the year with a 51-9 record, sweeping the Conference USA regular season and tournament titles in the process.
The Owls advanced to NCAA Regionals for the second year in a row and Joyce was named conference Coach of the Year for the seventh time in her career.
