BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University senior Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff has entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings at No. 100, becoming the first Owl to be ranked since Olivier Sajous in the 2006-07 season.
The France native was named the Conference USA men's tennis Athlete of the Week after defeating UCF's No. 43 Korey Lovett on Sunday in both singles and doubles action. Morin-Kougoucheff is 5-2 on the year as FAU's No. 1 singles player and 5-3 in doubles, playing with Remi Chancerel. He has led FAU to an 8-3 record, including an eight-match win streak.
"This is a great accomplishment for Andrei and I couldn't be any happier for him," FAU Head Coach Ricardo Gonzalez said. " I am sure he will cherish this big moment in his career and celebrate with his teammates. Knowing the true champion that he really is, he will stay hungry, humble, and disciplined throughout the journey and will be motivated to work harder and harder. We will continue to develop his game and stay focus on the process."
The Owls host their next six matches at the FAU Tennis Complex, starting with a Feb. 26 match against Florida A&M at 12 p.m.
