MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team was able to make a first half goal stand up in notching a Conference USA road victory on Friday night over Middle Tennessee, 1-0.
Turning Point:
The lone goal of the match came in the 38th minute, off of a beautiful corner kick by Kelsey Parry. The senior played the ball to the far side of the box where it was headed in by Sammy Rowland for her team-high fifth goal of the season.
The Finish:
The Owls (6-5-1, 2-1-0 C-USA) staved off all of the remaining Blue Raider (3-6-1, 1-2-0) shot attempts. They had 11 chances following the score, none finding the back of the net. Only five of their 15 shots were on goal.
Notables:
Quotable:
"It was a great performance by both teams," said head coach Patrick Baker. "It was our first road win of 2016 ... and had a lot of 1-0 losses the wrong way. Today we just managed to collect an early goal in the first half and managed to make it hold up over the course of 90 minutes."
What's Next:
The Owls' road action continues Sunday at UAB, for a 2 p.m. EDT kickoff. Sunday, Oct. 9 will be the next home tilt, at the FAU Soccer Stadium against Charlotte.
