BOCA RATON, Fla. The Florida Atlantic men's basketball program recently took a foreign tour to the Bahamas. The team departed on August 13 and returned to campus on August 18th. The NCAA allows programs to embark on a summer foreign tour once every four years.
From a basketball standpoint, the trip allowed the team to get a head start on the upcoming 2016-2017 season. When taking a summer trip, the NCAA allows its teams to hold 10 full practice days in preparation for the trip, as well as compete in exhibition games against international competition while on the trip. The trip was a successful one on the court, as the Owls won all three of their games. On the second full day of the trip, the team was able to enjoy some fun in the Bahamian sun. The team took a bus tour of the island, including historic Port Charlotte. It was a very unique opportunity for the entire group.
Every player and staff member that participated in the trip will remember it forever, and this summer will certainly prove valuable for this upcoming season. There were special bonds built and a wonderful chemistry formed throughout the process.
"The tour gave us a chance to bond on and off the court, which is important with so many new guys on the team," said FAU Head Men's Basketball Coach Michael Curry. "We're excited to see the dividends of this trip on the court once the season starts."
