BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team got off to its best start since 1991 and set several school records over the course of the 2015-16 campaign with upper-class leadership paving the way.
The Owls finished the year 14-16 with a 6-12 mark in Conference USA and maintained their reputation as a dangerous long-range team, setting numerous three-point records. FAU shattered the program and C-USA marks for most three-pointers in a season (294) by 30 baskets. The Owls also recorded their highest three-point percentage (35.0) on a record 839 attempts.
Junior Kat Wright broke the FAU record and tied the C-USA mark, draining 11 three-pointers at Charlotte on Jan. 30, just one shy of the NCAA single-game record. Wright also tied the FAU single-game three-point percentage mark with a 6-of-7 outing against Marshall on Jan. 7, a game that saw the Owls drain 17 from beyond the arc.
Senior Ali Gorrell posted two of the most prolific halves of basketball in C-USA and NCAA history with 30 second-half points in the C-USA tournament game against North Texas and 24 in the second half at Southern Miss. The Colorado native led FAU with 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while fellow senior Morgan Robinson also averaged double-digit scoring for the year.
