BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team split its two games at the Parents' Weekend Tournament on Saturday, beating Rutgers 7-1, but falling victim to a perfect game in a 1-0 loss to Minnesota.
Game 1 (vs. Rutgers) Notables
• Tatum Buckley threw a complete game two hitter in the circle for her sixth win of the season.
• Carnesha Thompson went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
• Emily Lochten went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
• Delaney Rickey, Christina Martinez, Melissa Martinez and Samantha Lageyre also scored for FAU in the game.
Key Plays
Thompson drove in Christina Martinez with a base hit up the middle in the first. Two hits and a Scarlet Knight error led to four unearned runs in the fourth inning for FAU. The Owls added two more runs in the seventh when Rickey scored on an Emily Lochten foulout to the first baseman and Melissa Martinez doubled in Thompson.
Game 2 (vs. Minnesota) Notables
• Minnesota pitcher Sara Groenewegen threw a perfect game in the circle, while Kylee Hanson gave up just one run on five hits to take the tough luck loss.
Key Plays
Minnesota right fielder Sydney Fabian hit a solo homerun over the fence in right for the only run of the game. Fabian was also responsible for preserving the perfect game, making a diving catch to end the fourth inning and robbing Thompson of a base hit.
