BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University baseball team improved to 7-0 after completing its third sweep in two weeks, topping LIU Brooklyn 5-1.

"It's always good to get a sweep," said FAU Head Coach John McCormack, who earned his 250th win at the helm. "These guys came ready to play today and [Marc] Stewart matched their intensity."

Newcomer Stewart dealt six innings of shutout work, allowing just two hits and not allowing a fly ball in the game. Junior Colyn O'Connell picked up his first win at FAU, allowing one run in his lone inning of work. Devon Carr and Nick Swan each pitched shutout innings to close out the contest.

At the plate, Stephen Kerr and Billy Endris each tallied two hits while Esteban Puerta and Sean Labsan drove in two runs apiece.

After FAU left the bases loaded in the third, junior Esteban Puerta drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning. Fellow junior Sean Labsan then hit his first career triple down the right field line to drive in Puerta, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.

A lead-off single, walk and hit batter loaded the bags for the Blackbirds (1-5) in the seventh before an RBI groundout evened the score.

The Owls stormed back in the bottom of the inning as Stephen Kerr led off with a single. After CJ Chatham was intentionally walked and Christian Dicks reached on an error, Puerta belted his third double of the season to drive in his 14th and 15th RBI in just seven games. Labsan capped off the rally with a sacrifice fly to plate Dicks, giving the Owls a 4-1 lead.

Austin Langham drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the eighth and moved to second on a Kerr walk. Senior Billy Endris then roped a single to left to finish off the scoring as Langham crossed the plate.

The Owls will go to Jupiter, Fla. on Wednesday, March 2 to take on the MLB's St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium in an exhibition. Former Owl Austin Gomber is expected to start on the hill for the Cardinals.
