BOCA RATON, Fla. - A pair of stellar performances in the pitching circle helped the Florida Atlantic University softball team extend its program-best start to 11-0 on Friday night. The Owls defeated Stony Brook 6-1 and Michigan State 3-0 on day one of the FAU Invitational.

Game 1 vs. Stony Brook Notables
Tatum Buckley threw a complete game four-hitter for her third win of the season.
A pair of three run innings accounted for all of FAU's runs in the game.
Buckley also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Delaney Rickey and Christina Martinez both went 2-for-4. Rickey scored one run, while Martinez scored twice.
Melissa Martinez went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Key Plays

Two FAU hits and four Sea Wolf errors allowed the Owls to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Buckley helped her own cause with a two-run triple in the seventh inning before scoring on Mickey Bell's RBI single to center.

Game 2 vs. Michigan State Notables
Kylee Hanson tossed a complete game two-hitter to advance her record on the year to 5-0. Hanson also tallied eight strikeouts.
Carnesha Thompson's two-run double in the third would provide all the offense FAU needed.
Melissa Martinez led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, ultimately scoring on a Spartan wild pitch.

Key Play

With two on and one out in the third inning, Thompson laced a single back up the middle that drove in Kiley Southall and Christina Martinez to put the Owls up 2-0.

On the games - "Both of our pitchers threw well tonight. Offensively, we were able to get runners on and come up with hits when we needed them. All of our runs tonight came when we got the leadoff batter on base."

On moving forward - "The key is to avoid the letdown and come out (Saturday) ready to play."
