Final Stats

The Florida Atlantic University softball team began its 2016 season with a pair of victories on Friday at the FAU Kick-Off Classic. The Owls (2-0) shut out SIUE 7-0 in their first game and beat Hofstra 6-1 in their second game.

Game 1 Notables
Amanda Wilson gave up only four hits and tallied eight strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle.
Emily Lochten hit her first home run of the season.
Christina Martinez had a monster game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
Delaney Rickey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run.
Sarah Bencivenga went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Game Changer

The Owls scored three runs on three hits in the top of the second and were never really challenged by the Cougars (0-2). Wilson didn't allow a runner to advance to third base until the fourth inning.

Game 2 Notables
Kylee Hanson struck out 14 batters and scattered five hits for her first win of the season.
Carnesha Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, including a homerun.
Melissa Martinez hit her first homer of the season as part of a 2-for-3, two-RBI effort at the plate.
Delaney Rickey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run.
Sarah Bencivenga went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Game Changer

Thompson hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Madisyn Palmer, who was pinchrunning for Lauren Whitt, to score. That gave FAU a 2-0 lead in the third inning and provided Hanson all the cushion she would need.

On her team - "It was a good performance for opening night. I think we were able to get those first game jitters out of the way."
