BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team has racked up the razors in favor of "No-Shave November".
The Owls, traditionally clean shaven with hair trimmed to fall just above their collars, have embraced the opportunity to toss the clippers aside for the cause.
Each player, who has opted to participate, will solicit donations and at the end of the month all proceeds will be donated to the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute.
The concept of No-Shave November is to create awareness. Many cancer patients suffer from hair loss. By embracing the opportunity to toss the razors and clippers aside, participants are asked to donate what they would normally spend on razors and grooming. More importantly it is an opportunity to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.
"I know the trouble patients go through during radiation and chemo - first hand," said John McCormack, FAU's head baseball coach. "When going through treatment, it is the little things that make the difference. I hope the money we raise will help make someone's day a little brighter."
