BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University football team had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night as Old Dominion used a big second half to win 42-24.

The Turning Point

The Monarchs (8-3, 6-1 C-USA) scored three touchdowns in the third quarter and held the Owls (3-8, 2-5 C-USA) to just a field goal in the frame, turning a 21-13 halftime deficit into a 35-24 lead.

The Finish

ODU added on quick when they scored on an 84-yard catch-and-run early in the fourth quarter. It would turn out to be the only points of the final period. A long Owls' drive ended on a fourth-down incompletion at the ODU 10 with 4:25 remaining and the Monarchs ran out the clock for the win.

Notables

FAU scored on each of their first two possessions, from close range with their one-two RB punch. "Buddy" Gregory Howell went in from one yard to break former Owl star Alfred Morris' single-season TD mark of 11 on their opening drive; "Motor" Devin Singletary had a two-yard score late in the first quarter to put the squad up 14-3
Early in the second quarter, after ODU had cut the Owls' lead to 14-10, redshirt sophomore Kris Harris was credited with a blocked punt that traveled just six yards to give his team the ball on the Monarchs' 21. Singletary went for 22 yards on second down and on the next play, took it in from five yards for his second score of the night
Singletary would lead the ground game with 89 yards while Howell added 54
Kalib Woods and Tyler Cameron hauled in 11 of the team's 15 receptions for a combined 182 yards. Woods was 7-120 (his sixth game over the century mark this season) and Cameron 4-62, with longs of 38 and 39 yards, respectively
Azeez Al-Shaair was the leading Owls' tackler with 12, while senior defensive lineman Shalom Ogbonda had 10. Trey Hendrickson and Jalen Young chipped in with eight apiece and Steven Leggett tied his career high with seven

"Give ODU a ton of credit," said Head Coach Charlie Partridge. "There wasn't a lot of schematic changes that they showed or that they did in the second half to change what happened, (but) they really did a great job of making some plays."

The final stop for the Owls in the 2016 campaign will be next weekend in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. FAU will take on 7-4 Middle Tennessee with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Nov. 26.
