WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team continued its best start in program history with a 2-0 shutout of Southeast Missouri Friday night.
The Owls improved to 6-1 with their third consecutive victory and are now 2-0 in home contests. The smothering FAU defense held SEMO (2-3-1) to just three shots in the contest with just one on goal.
In the 16th minute, Sammy Rowland, making her first FAU start, fed senior Claire Emslie a pass from just outside the box. Emslie popped a shot over the head of the SEMO keeper to net her 25th career goal, the eventual game-winner.
A timely foul in the 74th minute, set senior Taylor Townsend up for her first goal of the year as she drilled a line drive into the left side of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater recorded her 12th shutout, and fourth of the year, to move into third all-time in the FAU record books.
The Owls travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown on Sunday, Sept. 13. FAU's next home match comes against UC Irvine on Sept. 20. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit FAUSports.com.
