BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University women's basketball head coach Kellie Lewis-Jay announced the signing of Nika Zyryanova to the 2015-16 squad on Thursday.
"We are very excited to add Nika to our basketball family," Lewis-Jay said. "She is a guard who can play multiple positions for us, she will step in right away and be a contributor in our program."
Zyryanova, a 5-9 guard from Yekaterinburg, Russia, played at Casper College in Wyoming last season and was named to the President's Honor Roll.
A member of the 2013 Russian National 18U team, Zyryanova was named the best point guard and defensive player in Russia for women born in 1995. She also helped lead her team to the Junior Russian Championship silver medal in 2013.
Zyryanova and her historic UMMC Basketball Club won the team's fifth consecutive Russian title in 2012.
"Nika has a great basketball IQ. She controls the game and plays with a poise that will be an undeniable asset to us," Lewis-Jay said. "Nika has a passion and drive to excel in all aspects of her life and I can't wait for the opportunity to coach her."
