JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
On the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships, Sitia Martinez set a new career-best in the first round of the 400 meter hurdles.
Martinez went into the race ranked 46th in the East region and finished No. 25 with a time of 59.21. With this time, Martinez is now ranked second on FAU's All-Time Top 10 List.
The sophomore missed qualifying for the quarterfinal 400 meter hurdles by two one hundredths of a second as the top 24 make the cut. She took fifth in her heat out of eight runners.
The next event will feature the 4x100 meter relay team of Deja Jones, Martinez, Sherline Valentin, and Regina Wilkerson. The team goes into competition tied for 13th in the East region and will need to finish in the top 12 to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13. The 4x100 meter relay will take place on Saturday, March 30 at 6 p.m. Live results can be found at flashresults.com.
