BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will host its final five home games of the season this week. The Owls will face in-state rival Florida Gulf Coast in a doubleheader on Wednesday night before Conference USA foe UTSA comes to town for a three game series this weekend.
The Owls (30-15-1, 11-6 C-USA) are currently the no. 4 seed for the C-USA tournament, which will be hosted by FIU on May 7-9 in Miami, Fla. While the team is still mathematically alive for the regular season title, it is also possible to miss the tournament field entirely.
FAU split a doubleheader with Marshall over the weekend, winning game one 3-0 before losing the second game 6-5. Kylee Hanson earned her second consecutive Conference USA Pitcher of the Week award for her efforts in the circle.
Florida Gulf Coast (22-26) will come to Boca Raton on a three game losing streak. The Owls and Eagles split a doubleheader last season in Fort Myers. Hanson struck out nine in FAU's 3-1 win. Wednesday's doubleheader will start at 6 p.m.
This weekend, the Owls will face UTSA in their final home series of the season. The Roadrunners (30-15, 12-5 C-USA) lead the West division and swept rival UTEP last weekend. The two schools have never met before.
Saturday's doubleheader against UTSA will be Senior Night and the Owls will recognize their five seniors prior to the 6 p.m. game.
Live stats and live video for all five games will be available at fausports.com. Live updates will also be posted on the official Twitter page of FAU softball (@fauowlssoftball).
