BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University softball's Amanda Wilson and baseball's Ricky Santiago were named FAU Players of the Week for the second time this year.
Wilson continued to add to her impressive resume by throwing a four-hit shutout of Bethune-Cookman on Saturday during the Parents' Weekend Tournament. She struck out six batters in the 6-0 win. On Sunday, the sophomore threw all 11 innings against Hofstra striking out 11. For the week, she threw 18 innings, gave up 12 hits and only three earned runs. Wilson had a 1.17 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
Santiago hit back-to-back home runs in his first two at-bats against Rutgers on Sunday en route to seven RBI in the game. He followed up a two-run homer in the first with a grand slam in the second that put FAU up 7-0. The senior would have had a chance to set the FAU record for most RBI in a game, but was left on deck with runners on in the eighth. Santiago hit .429 on the week with 10 RBI, five runs, two doubles and two home runs as the Owls swept Rutgers.
Softball will face Florida State on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at home and will then head to Ruston, La. to play Louisiana Tech to open Conference USA play on March 14-15. Baseball will host Illinois State on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m. and North Carolina State on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. The team will head to Charlotte this weekend for their first set of C-USA games.
