BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University's head cheer and dance coach Lisa Snowden has been chosen to receive the Gotta Luv Them Leadership Award for being a young professional who is making a difference in the community.
"When Jose called me, I was honored that they would think of me," said Snowden. "It is a great feeling that your own peers see you as a leader. As a Dance coach I love seeing the Gotta Luv Them crew donate back to the school and have so much school spirit."
Snowden graduated from FAU in 2005 with a B.S. in Human Resources and was also a four-year dance team member. She accepted the position as head dance coach in 2008 and in 2013 she also became the head cheer coach. While in her position, Lisa has mentored dozens of young women. She has motivated them to be outstanding in and out of the classroom by participating in hundreds of community service hours while also placing eighth at the National Championships.
"Once I heard Lisa was going to be the Dance and Cheer team coach at FAU, I was really excited for the University and the young women she would be a mentor to," said Jose Herrera of the Gotta Luv Them Fund. "Lisa and I were classmates while at FAU and she was a true leader and full of school spirit. When we all met to discuss who we would award the Gotta Luv Them Leadership award to, Lisa was atop of our list."
The Gotta Luv Them Fund was created to in order to give back to FAU, and in just two years, the founders have raised more than $10,000 to benefit the university. The award will be presented to Snowden at the Third Annual Gotta Luv Them Fishing Tournament, which will be held on May 16 in Islamorada, Fla.
