BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team, which received votes in this week's poll, dropped the first game of a three-game weekend series with Ohio State 8-3, on Friday.

"We had some opportunities," said John McCormack, FAU's head baseball coach. "That's a good team (OSU). They have been together for a couple of years now. They have some good athletes. They aren't going to let us back into the game. We have to curtail the mistakes."

The Buckeyes (4-0) took the early lead plating two runs in the top of the third and added a third in the top of the fourth before the Owls (4-1) scored a run in the bottom half of the fourth. Brett Lashley lead-off the inning for FAU with a single to left. He move to second on a ground out and then scored on back-to-back singles by Rickey Santiago and Roman Collins.

Each team added runs in the six to give giving OSU a 4-2 margin. OSU broke the game open in the eighth and held the Owls scoreless in the game's last three frames for the 8-2 final.

The FAU trio of Brendon Sanger, Santiago and Collins collected six of the team's 11 hits, each going 2-for-4 on the night while Collins drove in both runs. Kyle Miller drew his second start of the season and fell to 1-1 after five innings of work. He was charged with three runs, two earned. Miller struck out two, walked one and scattered five hits. He was relieved in the sixth by Sean Labsan. Labsan tossed three innings and was charged with five earned runs. John Sebelle pitched a scoreless ninth.
