BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team kicked off its 2015-16 season with a 75-58 win over St. Thomas on Thursday night.
Freshman Jeantal Cylla led all scorers with 19 points. He was joined in double digits by Adonis Filer (17) and Solomon Poole (10). The Owls got out to a 23-13 lead midway through the first half, but the Bobcats scored 12 straight points in just over two and a half minutes to take a 25-23 edge.
FAU quickly regained the advantage and went into the locker room at the half with a 39-35 lead. The second half began with both teams battling for control of the game. The Owls led by just three, 50-47, with 9:36 remaining in the game when they went on a 14-2 run to seal the win.
The Bobcats stayed close for most of the night, in large part due to a 50-37 rebounding advantage. "We were forced to play smaller than we wanted to, but we still have to rebound the basketball better," said FAU head men's basketball coach Michael Curry.
FAU will officially kick off its regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 when they travel to Michigan State. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and air on ESPN3.com. The game will also air on ESPN 106.3.
