BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University baseball team has selected seniors Devon Carr and Christian Dicks as captains for the 2016 season, as voted on by the players and coaches.
"I think they made great choices," FAU Head Coach John McCormack said. "Devon and Christian will do a fine job. They have the respect of the players and of the coaches and I look forward to working with them on helping the team.
Carr, a relief pitcher from Sarasota, ranked second on the squad in 2015 with 31 appearances on the hill. The southpaw struck out 21 batters in 27.1 innings of work with one combined shutout outing. On April 8, Carr struck out a career-high four batters in 2.2 relief innings at No. 8 Miami.
"Being named a captain of this team is an honor," Carr said. "I'm looking forward to carrying on the culture of winning and proud traditions this program has built for itself."
Dicks led FAU with eight home runs a season ago with 39 RBI. The Jacksonville native scored 36 runs with seven doubles and two triples and was a perfect 7-of-7 on stolen base attempts. Dicks, in his first game as an Owl, hit a walk-off home run against Connecticut in the 2015 opener.
"Being voted as a captain by the team is a huge deal to me," Dicks said. "It's an unbelievable honor."
The Owls open the 2016 campaign facing South Dakota St. and Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. on February 19. For season or single-game tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit FAUSports.com.
