The Florida Atlantic University men's cross country team competed in the 8k at the Conference USA Championships on Saturday, with Michael Vidal coming in as the Owls' top finisher.
Vidal finished in 47th place out of 84runners with a final time of 26:39.2. Freshman Conor Fitzgerald was right behind the senior, claiming 52nd place with a final time of 26:49.6. Next in for the Owls was Jonathon Werble who finished the race in 28:07.4, for 68th place.
Finishing just behind Werble was John Marting, placing 71st with a time of 28:12.9. Rounding out the FAU's runners were Joshua Nicholas, Christian Small, Jehal Thompson, and Ross Rabalais.
The Owls finished in 10th place with 291 total points with a total time of 2:18.33.
"Although our team finish wasn't what we hoped for, I am very proud of this group! The last time we ran on this course was 2012, and we ran much better today than we did back then!" Said Cross Country Head Coach Alex Smolka. "Our result clearly shows that we are moving in the right direction and that we have a great young group of student athletes who are committed to our culture of handwork and team camaraderie."
The men will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the NCAA South Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 13 beginning at 9 a.m
