JACKSONVILLE, FL - - Danielle Aromashodu looks to prolong her final season as a Florida Atlantic University Owl at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships. The three-day preliminary round is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 29 at the University of North Florida.
The UNF Ospreys will host the East Championships at Hodges Stadium, the home to its track and field teams since January 2004.
Aromashodu finished second in the 400 meter hurdles at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship to qualify for her fourth appearance at regionals. The Miami native crossed the finish line in 58.55. Aromashodu, who serves as team captain, holds the FAU record in the 400 hurdles (58.33) and was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Champion in the event. She is currently ranked 29th in the country going into Thursday's competition.
"In preparation for the NCAA preliminary round it is clear that Danielle is in the best shape of her life," said Head Coach Alex Smolka."It would only be fitting and deserving if she's able to have an outstanding appearance at her fourth and final NCAA championships"
Qualifying to the final championships competition is accomplished through performance in the preliminary championships competition, at both the east and west sites, for events contested at those competitions. Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each preliminary championships competition site to the final championships competition. The list of student-athletes, by event, who have been qualified from the preliminary championships competition will be announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, June 3.
Aromashodu will compete in the first round of the 400 hurdles on Thursday, May 29 at 5 p.m. The quarterfinals will take place on Friday, May 30 at 7:45 p.m.
