Boca Raton, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University men's tennis player Marc Abdelnour will head into next week's Sun Belt Conference Championships with a national ranking in singles play for the second time in the 2010-11 season.
Abdelnour is the nation's 114th ranked singles player in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. The Aleppo, Syria native stands 26-6 on the season, including a 17-3 mark at the No. 1 singles position.
"The ITA computers have recognized Marc's efforts and commitment," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "The statistics do not come close to capturing Marc's true qualities. He is having a special season and continues to lead our team on court in practice and during each match."
Abdelnour was named FAU's Male Athlete of the Year during Monday's Athletic Department banquet. He is the program's all-time leader for career singles and total victories.
FAU stands 11-9 on the season and is continuing to prepare for the conference championships, set for April 20-23 in Mobile, Ala.
