Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team has packed its bags in search of its second consecutive road victory when the Owls battle the University of Denver in a Sun Belt Conference game on Wednesday, February 9, starting at 9 p.m. (eastern time).
FAU was victorious at the University of North Texas, 64-58, last Thursday for its first road triumph of the season. Coach Chancellor Dugan's squad stands 6-16 on the season and 3-8 in conference play. Denver brings in a 13-10 record overall while being 5-5 in league action.
The Owls defeated the Pioneers 70-54 last season in the Rocky Mountain state. FAU is coming off a hard fought 60-53 setback at home to South Florida rival FIU on Sunday. The team rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to grab a 38-37 lead with 13:55 remaining in the game.
Senior guard Lyrell Barfield leads the team in scoring at nearly 12 points a game. The Miami native has come off the bench to score in double figures in the last two games, highlighted by a season-high 22 points in the victory at North Texas.
Junior post player Vontrice Dennis leads the Owls with four double-doubles on the season. Fellow junior forward April Goins is coming off an 11-rebound performance against FIU on Sunday - the most rebounds she has had in a league game.
The Owls will return to South Florida on Saturday, February 12, for a match up against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, starting at 3 p.m., from the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus. The program will be hosting its annual "Pink Zone" game, with proceeds supporting breast cancer awareness.
