Coral Gables Fla. - Nationally ranked singles player Marc Abdelnour continues to build an impressive senior-year resume, earning a decisive straight-set victory to highlight the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team in a loss at the University of Miami on Sunday in Coral Gables.

The setback halted a two-match winning streak and drops the Owls to 4-4 on the season. The Hurricanes entered the match ranked No. 39 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll.

"Miami is well coached, talented and solid competitors," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "We gave our best with what we had today. Our players will now focus on their academics and improving before our next match."

Abdelnour improved to 7-1 on the spring season and 16-4 on the 2010-11 season with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Miami's No. 1 player Waylon Chin. He also combined with classmate Ervin Garibovic for a 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. However, the Hurricanes won the only two matches to capture the point in doubles action.

In singles, senior Daniel Vardag lost a hard fought three-set match at No. 3 singles (6-2, 4-6, 6-4), while freshman Oliver Webb loss a first-set tiebreaker at the No. 4 singles.

The Owls will return to the court on Saturday, February 26, when they battle in-state rival UCF in Orlando, starting at 11 a.m. It will mark the last match before a 10-day break to prepare for a busy schedule for the rest of March.
