Boca Raton, Fla. - A 5-1 spring and 14-4 overall record has earned Florida Atlantic University No. 1 men's tennis player Marc Abdelnour a classification among the nation's elite singles players. The senior is ranked No. 124 in the country after already defeating three nationally ranked players this season.
"Marc's commitment and work ethic inspire the team," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach. "This recognition is just the beginning of a special senior season for Marc."
The Aleppo, Syria native is the program's all-time leader with 76 career singles victories. He also ranks fourth in school history for career singles winning percentage (.738) and is second with 127 wins in singles and doubles matches.
Abdelnour has helped lead the Owls to a 3-3 start to this season, including a dramatic 4-3 win over USF on February 13 in Tampa. He posted a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 victory against No. 114-ranked Lucas Jovita.
"I have worked hard and try to help the team win," said Abdelnour. "This is an individual honor, but I take pride in spreading FAU's name in college tennis throughout Florida and, now, nationally. I feel I can achieve more and can be ranked higher."
The Owls will return to the court on Saturday, February 19, when they travel to Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
