BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University punter Mickey Groody has been named Honorable Mention All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com.
The junior punter from St. Thomas Aquinas High School averaged 45.7 yards per punt for the Owls. He led the Sun Belt Conference in average per punt and was named first-team all-conference. He finished the season No. 5 nationally while his efforts helped the team finish No. 17 nationally in net punting at 38.30 yards per punt return.
Groody punted 72 times for the Owls and less than half, or 30, of the punts, were return by the opponents. He had two games with punts of 70-plus yards, including his career high of 73 against FIU. His second was a 72-yard punt against Troy University in the final game of the 2010 season. Three times in 2010 his game average was above 50, with the University of North Texas, University of Texas and Troy.
