Boca Raton, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's football team continued to take advantage of its open week on the schedule to refine every aspect of the squad on the before starting Sun Belt Conference action. Special teams got special treatment along with individual fundamental drills during Friday's practice as the Owls began preparations for their home opener on September 25 against the University of North Texas.
All aspects of the team shined during a variety of drills on the Tom Oxley Athletic Fields. The practice began with attention being paid to the special teams before switching into individual position drills. Strong performances could be found on both sides of the line of scrimmage throughout the session.
During the seven-on-seven portion of practice, redshirt senior cornerback Tarvoris Hill returned an interception for a touchdown after going through the wide receiver's hands.
Meanwhile, the offense picked up its play during a blitz drill. Redshirt freshman wide receiver DeAndre Richardson caught a 10-yard pass over the middle from redshirt sophomore quarterback David Kooi. That positive momentum carried over to the first-and-10 situational drill, where redshirt senior running back Jeff Blanchard showcased his strength on a run through the left side of the offensive line.
Not to be outdone, the defense responded at the end of practice with redshirt senior cornerback Tavious Polo intercepting a tipped pass from redshirt senior quarterback Jeff Van Camp intended for senior wide receiver Lester Jean on a deep route on the right side of the practice turf. Redshirt junior defensive back Marcus Bartels initially got his hands on the ball, giving Polo enough time to corral the turnover.
FAU will return to the Oxley Athletic Fields on Saturday, September 18 at 10 a.m. All practices are free and open to the public.
