BOCA RATON, FL - The third annual Iron Owl competition has officially begun. One of the newest and freshest traditions of the FAU Baseball program is back for another season and RHP Kevin Alexander has the early lead after two events.
The rising sophomore put up a very strong time of 2:15 in the 800m dash held on Friday afternoon on the FAU track. Alexander also finished sixth in the Farmer's Walk which entails players running from foul pole to foul pole while carrying two 50 pound sand bags.
The winner will be announced during FAU's first home game of the 2011 season. Graduated RHP Lou Morey won the previous two Iron Owl awards.
The award indentifies the strongest Owl baseball player - both mentally and physically. A series of events will be held throughout the fall season that will test each student-athletes' physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance.
Each event and category will be graded and a running total of each player's rank is kept by the FAU coaching staff.
