BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's football team returned to the practice field Tuesday and began slowly putting in the plays for their first opponent, UAB.
"In general, this was our first day of preparation for the opening ball game," said Howard Schnellenberger, FAU's head football coach. "They have had two days off and they took on a new joy at practice. We also recognize that we have a long way to go, but we are encouraged by the first day of preparation."
Cloud cover provided a much cooler day of work for the Owls. Practice began with kickoff coverage and then moved into individual work and inside drills. The squad moved through each session quickly and saw both the offense and defense excel through seven-on-seven. Redshirt sophomore quarterback David Kooi hit both Blake Bierman and Darian Williams while senior quarterback Jeff Van Camp had a sure big yardage play until corner Tarvoris Hill snatched a bobbled ball for the first interception of the day. Marcus Bartels earned an INT as well.
As the team moved into team work it was redshirt sophomore Graham Wilbert that connected with senior receiver Avery Holley for a touchdown. Van Camp followed with a strike to senior tight end Rob Housler.
FAU football will be back on the Tom Oxley Practice Field at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. All practices are free and open to the public.
Season tickets as well as single-game tickets are on sale and can be purchased on line or by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
