Men's Tennis Begins Spring Season This Weekend

The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team begins the 2010 portion of its season with a pair of matches this weekend. The team will participate in the Illinois-Florida Invitational in Fort Myers on Friday, January 15, before hosting Florida A&M University in a dual match on Saturday, January 16 at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.
Individuals will be placed into singles and doubles flights with competitors from the University of Illinois and Florida State University. Both of those teams are ranked in the top 15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason poll.
FAU enjoyed an 18-8 season in the spring 2009 season, and advanced to the championship match of the Sun Belt Conference tournament. The team defeated Florida A&M last year 5-0.
The Owls are led by junior Marc Abdelnour, who finished last season nationally ranked with a 26-6 record in singles matches and contributed to 16 doubles match victories. Abdelnour had a 1-1 record at the ITA Southeast Regional during the fall 2009 season.
Other top returning players include senior Lawrence Harradine, who had a 25-win season last year, including 17 victories in the number three singles position; and senior Daniel Vardag, who combined for 32 victories in singles and doubles action last spring.
