BOCA RATON, FL - Coming into the start of a season, coaches always have a special eye on members of his special teams unit. Fortunately, for Howard Schnellenberger, He doesn't have much to worry about.
With two solid punters on the roster in Keegan Peterson and Mickey Groody, Schnellenberger feels unique from a personnel perspective.
"For the first time since I've been coaching, we've got two top of the line punters," he said.
Peterson handled the punting duties last year, piling up 2,375 yards of kicking on 62 punts with an average of 38.3 yards.
After last year, Schnellenberger's confidence in his kicking game is on the rise. With Ross Gornall coming off a spectacular second half of the 2008 season, he is confident in a consistent kicking game.
"Ross is a solid individual as well as kicker," Schnellenberger said. "I think his best kicks are still ahead of him."
On the return side of special teams, the punt return duties will be Tavious Polo's to lose. Polo tallied 199 yards on 21 returns last year, his longest being 48 yards.
"He is the best and he has improved," Schnellenberger said. "He has matured a lot since last year."
With a roster flooded with skills, kick returns are on the bottom of the list of concerns for Schnellenberger.
