BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team announced their annual awards during the annual Homecoming Alumni Game recently. Among those players recognized from last year's team was outfielder David Wilson, who was honored with the "Nick Presto Team Most Valuable Player Award." "The Edwin A. Nelson Most Valuable Pitcher Award" was given to Alex Pepe, and the "Gabe Sommariba Teammate Award" was given to Troy Bubley.
"It was a great afternoon and all of the former players were really excited to come back and particpate," said head coach John McCormack. "This event is not only one of my favorites, but the current players also really enjoy soaking up the FAU baseball tradition."
Wilson appeared in 52 games for FAU last season and batted .338 with seven home runs and 32 RBI. Pepe led the Owls with a 4.46 ERA and went 3-1 in 29 appearances out of the bullpen. Bubley batted .282 in 50 games with four home runs and 32 RBI.
Other former players honored included Dusty Gardner, Evan Brannon, Gabe Sommariba and Pat Murray. Following the pregame ceremonies, the current FAU baseball players defeated the Alumni with a score of 5-2. After the game concluded, both teams made their way over to Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale to continue the alumni weekend festivities during FAU's Homecoming football game against Middle Tennessee State University.
