HOUSTON – Florida Atlantic baseball (15-12, 2-3 American) dropped the middle game in its weekend series with Rice (16-12, 2-3 American), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.

THE BEGINNING
Florida Atlantic took the early lead on a one-out, solo home run by Ian Collier in the second inning. They doubled the advantage in the third with a Collier sacrifice fly.

THE TURNING POINT
Redshirt sophomore Kide Adetuyi cruised through five shutout innings and had the bases empty with two outs in the sixth before Rice came alive. A base hit and a walk preceded a three-run home run to put the home Owls ahead 3-2.

THE FINISH
The FAU offense could not solve Rice reliever Ty Thames, going down in order in each of the final three innings. Rice added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away for good.

THE BATS

Collier's third home run of the season tied him for the team lead.
Nick Romano, Michael Perazza, and John Martinez each finished with two hits apiece.

THE ARMS

Adetuyi struck out six in six innings. He walked three and allowed four hits.
Kyzer Smith pitched the seventh and eighth innings and conceded two runs.

The series finale is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
