HOUSTON – Florida Atlantic baseball (15-13, 2-4 American) was held to three hits in an 8-1 defeat at Rice (17-12, 3-3 American) on Sunday afternoon in Houston.

THE BEGINNING
Rice jumped on Owls' freshman Garrett Grant for a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. The home Owls added two more solo homers in the second and third innings to lead 6-0.

THE FINISH
Eli Small broke the shutout with a solo home run in the sixth, however, Rice responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to close out the 8-1 ballgame.

THE BATS

In addition to Small's home run, Marshall Lipsey and Nick Romano had the Owls' two other hits, both singles.
The Owls drew seven walks but finished the day with nine left on base.

THE ARMS

Grant was relieved after three innings by Tyler Murphy, who allowed one run in 2.1 innings of work.
Zach Kilby took over in the sixth, allowing just one run on three hits in an inning and two-thirds.
Carson Kimball pitched a scoreless eighth.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Owls conclude a stretch of five straight on the road when they meet FIU on Tuesday, March 31 in Miami. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
