BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic jumped out to a nine-point lead before a series of technical fouls in the first half allowed visiting Louisiana-Monroe an eight-point advantage at the break and an eventual 94-88 victory over the homestanding Owls at the FAU Arena Thursday.
Florida Atlantic (4-16; 0-8 Sun Belt) - still winless in league play - found itself down by 17 in the second half but rallied to cut the ULM lead to a basket three different times in the final minute.
Paul Graham III caught fire during FAU's second-half comeback and finished with a game-high 29 points. Freshman guard Shavar Richardson added three treys, his third making it 86-84 with 42 seconds left.
Richardson scored 20, Carderro Nwoji had 14 and Alex Tucker added 12 points and had 11 assists.
ULM (6-13; 2-6 Sun Belt) won for the first time this season on the road, snapping a 14-game road losing streak dating back to last season.
Rudy Turner scored a career-high 23 points to pace a Warhawks team that scored its season-high against Division I competition. Dynile Forbes added 19 points, Afam Nweke scored 16 and Malcolm Thomas had 13 for the Warhawks.
"I have never seen anything like that," said FAU head coach Mike Jarvis, who began his coaching career in 1968. "We will move forward no matter what."
The Owls continue their Sun Belt schedule at Arkansas State Saturday at 5:05 ET. CSS will televise the game live.
