The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team exerted an excellent effort in a 3-1 match loss to the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
First half play was both physical and scoreless as the Kangaroos and Owls entered half time knotted at 0-0. Rough play escalated in the second half as the teams' combined for four goals. UMKC went on a scoring rally with three goals in just 19 minutes but FAU answered with a goal by senior Guilherme Ribeiro. The 84th minute goal was the first of the season for both Ribeiro and the Owls. Jordan Kelly was credited with the assist and also had shot on goal earlier in the match.
In the final moments of play, FAU continually pressured the UMKC defense as the Owls desperately tried to tie the match. However, FAU fell by a score of 3-1 and are 0-3-0 for the 2008 season. Florida Atlantic outshot the Kangaroos 19-10, led by Javier Carrillo's four shots at the net. Junior goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre recorded three saves.
