The Florida Atlantic University football team held their second three-a-day workout on Wednesday behind the Oxley Center field. The final practice was a full pad workout primary focused on executing plays.
FAU spent half of the final session of the day working on the punting game. Mickey Groody and Keegan Petersen both took snaps against the rush as the Owls get set to determine who the punter will be this upcoming season. In team scrimmages, a number of players played well. Jamari Grant came down with a couple of receptions, including one off a deflected throw through the hands of Darian Williams into Grant's hands for a touchdown. Rusty Smith also performed well, as he mixed up passes with Avery Holley and Chris Bonner with a long throw to Lester Jean in stride for a touchdown pass. The defensive first unit had their highlight during the two-minute drill at the end. The Owl D forced a fourth down situation and then Carldayle Brantley came away with an end zone interception of Smith at the end of practice.
Coach Howard Schnellenberger and the defending Sun Belt and New Orleans Bowl Champion FAU Owls will host Fan Fest on Saturday, August 16 beginning at noon at the FAU Track and Field complex. Bring the whole family for a day of football and fun as the Owls football team will be available for autographs before taking part in a scrimmage at 2 p.m.
Season and individual game tickets are on sale now. The Owls begin their home schedule against the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday, September 6 at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
