Monroe, LA - Louisiana-Monroe swept Florida Atlantic, convincingly defeating the Owls 13-5 in Sunday's series finale. The Warhawks scored ten quick runs and hit four home runs off FAU pitching.
Florida Atlantic (16-9; 6-4 SBC) had won seven straight games and 16-of-19 before dropping three in a row at Warhawk Field. FAU moves to 1-4 this season on the road.
Louisiana-Monroe (17-8; 10-2) assumes a commanding lead in the Sun Belt Conference standings after the sweep. ULM enjoyed a similar start to its SBC season a year ago, beginning 9-1, finishing 15-14.
The Warhawks jumped on FAU starter Michael Obradovich (1-2), hitting a pair of home runs and banging out five hits in the first two innings to take an early 6-0 lead.
FAU reliever Alex Pepe came on to spell Obradovich in the third and allowed four more runs on three extra-base hits, which included ULM's third homer of the game, a three-run shot off the bat of John Prevost.
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg hit a solo home run, his third homer of the year, and Alex Silversmith added an RBI single as part of two-run inning for the Owls in the sixth to cut ULM's lead to 11-4, but would get no closer.
ULM starter Josh Lett (5-1) owns a season era of 2.75, working six innings for the win.
FAU will try and rebound with a midweek game at No. 4 Miami this Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Mobile next weekend for a three-game series with South Alabama.
