BOCA RATON, FL - Michele Fazzari and Alicia Tirelli each scored a goal set up by the crisp passing of Susanna Lehtinen and the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team clamped down defensively, picking up a 2-0 win over the University of Toledo in Ft. Myers, FL on Friday.
"It was a 90 minute performance today," said Dooley. "We scored early and got to play with a lead instead of playing from behind."
The Owls snapped a two-game losing streak, and had fallen behind 2-0 in each of the last two contests.
After the Owls were able to break loose from the Rockets' pressure, Lehtinen found a seam and hit Fazzari with a pass on the wing. The senior then chipped a shot past the keeper for her first goal and fourth point on the season.
FAU got its second goal on a great passing play between Natalie D'Oria, Lehtinen and Tirelli. D'Oria found Lehtinen cutting into the corner, who then served a pass to Tirelli on the back post. The Brandon, FL native tapped it past the keeper for the insurance tally, her second on the year.
Florida Atlantic picks up its second shutout of the season, and improves its record to 2-3-0 on the year. Jessica Badders is credited with her second-career shutout.
The University of South Florida awaits Florida Atlantic when the Owls return home to face the Bulls on Sunday at FAU Field at 3 p.m.
