WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Wear red, come out and support the troops all during the month of April: The Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is collecting donations at every home Florida Atlantic University baseball and softball game.
"All monies collected will go directly toward helping our troops here and overseas," says J.B. Hunt, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter. "Fans will have the double honor of supporting their FAU Owls and the men and women serving our country."
Donations may be made at the ticket windows, or given to Red Cross volunteers present at the games. Group tickets are available for parties of 15 or more, along with special on-field recognition for military groups.
The Red Cross plays an integral role in assisting servicemen and women. Chapters across the country brief departing service members and their families on services, support (such as counseling) and communications.
Through its Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES), the American Red Cross provides a communication network for armed forces personnel around the world and their family members at home. The network operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and has been used for sending messages regarding the death or serious illness of a family member, the birth of a child and other or other emergencies/highly-important messages. The Red Cross also works with military aid societies in providing financial assistance when an urgent personal or family crisis arises. Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services personnel serve in nearly 1,000 chapters in the United States, on 109 military installations around the world and alongside troops in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
