The Florida Atlantic University track team will compete in the Hurricane Invitational this weekend.
The meet is the first for the Owls since taking part in the UCF Invitational, which was their first meet of the outdoor season. Head Coach Alex Smolka took a fairly young bunch to Orlando for that event, but the team performed well, coming away with wins in three events. Brandi Prather, Lindsay Glover and Ashley Davis all won events and Prather also ran the second fastest 100-meter dash in program history.
"We were well-rested and excited to compete in our first outdoor meet, that's what helped us perform so well," said Head Track Coach Alex Smolka.
FAU fared well at last year's Hurricane Invitational with seven top-10 finishes including Yanique Booth's victory in the 100-meter hurdles. The Owls will be looking to improve upon that success at this year's meet. Coach Smolka is excited about his team's potential.
"Our focus is going to be improving our personal records, getting better individually and let the results sort take care of themselves."
The Hurricane Invitational will begin on Thursday with Day 1 of the heptathlon and decathlon. The running event finals will be held Saturday night.
