FAU to Celebrate the Female Athlete

Florida Atlantic University will host a celebration of the 21st annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 18. This day was created in 1987 and is intended to celebrate the positive benefits of female participation in sports, the progress women have achieved in athletics and the mission to strive for equal access in sports.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. at the FAU Arena and will include a display area featuring trophies and jerseys showcasing the accomplishments of current and former FAU female student-athletes and coaches. The Palm Beach Punishers, a professional women's football team, will also make an appearance at the celebration. In addition, there will be a special presentation to honor the FAU Army ROTC servicewomen and local participants of the event, including Girl Scout Troops from the Palm Beach County area. To cap things off, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will take on the University of New Orleans Lady Privateers at 2 p.m.
Approximately 30 minutes after the the game, the FAU women's basketball team will host a basketball clinic. FAU head women's basketball coach Chancellor Dugan will make a special appearance at the clinic, presenting to the young girls in attendance.
